About SPC Hail Reports
The SPC records hail size in hundredths of inches. A value of “175” in the raw data means 1.75 inches — golf ball size. This is a common source of confusion in many third-party tools. FindTheTornado.com always converts correctly.
SPC severe hail threshold: 1.00″ diameter (quarter size). Reports below this threshold typically do not appear in preliminary SPC data.
